Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Hi Andy, I used tcpdump on the host computer to grab some ethernet frames. I could follow the frames to verify that wget was doing everything correctly right up until the problem caused by not yet having SSL facilities. Then I thought I could be tricky and use wget to grab a README file from an ftp ...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Ah yes, looking now at the output from wget, it's obvious that the program is stopping due to the lack of SSL. I'm going to run tcpdump on the Gentoo host for now, since it'll filter the packets down to a manageable level. Should be fun to play with ... With tcpdump I often filter by port number and...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Andy, When I type host www.visopsys.org , I get the address response OK. Here's a pic: . visop-wget-1.jpg The sniffer is great. At my location tho - it really gets pillastered by all the devices I have around here. I suppose I could create an isolated subnet for it. If the sniffer could filter (for ...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

The "unsupported" ethernet packet in the last pic is from my DVR - video IP protocol, so not an issue.

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Hi Andy, Most humble apologies ... I received my brand new SSD, copied my qemu setup to it (along with Gentoo of course) - and ran Visopsys v.9 again. It worked without any interrupt issues. So - the issue was maybe something on my part. Anyway here are some pics of the first run ... visopsys-connec...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Well, currently I'm using native mode Qemu because my Odroids don't have the VT-x Intel hardware virtualization cpu extensions. For many operating systems, KVM would be a performance boost in Qemu. For Visopsys, I doubt that a person would notice much difference, but I could be wrong. My trusty Qemu...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Hi Andy, Yes, I used the command lines from the first page of this thread to run QEMU. Did you have the host networking set-up with the tun/tap, etc? I think QEMU may discard network args if it cannot find a hardware configuration that matches up with the args. In that case, maybe you'd be running w...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

I'm reading that Qemu and almost all other virtualization software has plenty of issues with interrupt virtualizations. Qemu was mentioned specifically as having such issues prior to v2.9. I'll check the version I'm using. OTOH, Visopsys v0.82 worked OK with pcnet. I think you're using VMware?

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Hi Andy, I tried the v0.9 version of Visopsys today, and it installed OK. It seems the interface of the installer is more "fluid" than it seemed to be the last time I installed Visopsys. Much better. Anyway, the system installed and booted OK with no network, but when I set QEMU to use the pcnet nic...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk

Andy,

I just downloaded v0.9. I'll be setting it up on an ARM Linux board with QEMU, since I have only one Intel machine in the house. That one Intel board requires UEFI, so no joy there. Wonder if you've given much thought to UEFI?
