Re: Booting issue

Hi mate,

You're still waiting for me to sort out Ubuntu, yes?

I've been working really hard on some issues that I wanted to solve before the release of 0.7, but I haven't forgotten about this!

Re: Visopsys discussion forum

Hi Asper, Contributions are welcome. You'll there's a contrib/ subdirectory that contains the original stuff submitted by other developers, which have (for the most part) been integrated into the main source tree and mostly maintained by me. If you'd like to add anything, it's probably a good idea t...

Re: I can't boot Visopsys!

I suspect that they're different problems on your old PC and VirtualBox. I'm not sure what I can do to debug the problem on your old PC though, without getting access to it! PCs that old are so rare nowadays. I have a Dell that's from perhaps 2002 :geek:, but the OS works on that one (at least...

Re: I can't boot Visopsys!

Sounds great. I've been debugging on VirtualBox (Windows Vista host and Linux CentOS 5.3 host) and it looks like serious problems. The reason Visopsys doesn't work in VirtualPC (from Microsoft) is that they haven't really bothered to implement the x86 chip's hardware task switching mechanism (for mu...

Re: USB

Hi Asper, Visopsys hasn't had a new release in a long time, but a big new release is basically ready to go. I've done a fair bit of work on the USB stack in the last year or so. It's not perfect at all, but when it works, it works pretty well. Usually depends on the device that's plugged in. There's...

Re: I can't boot Visiopsys!

Hello, I only began testing the OS with VirtualBox a little while ago, but I do remember it working (more or less anyway). Sometimes it can be trickier to get VMs working than with real machines. VirtualPC is a particular PITA. :angry-tappingfoot: I tried a quick test of running it again last night,...

Re: Booting issue

Cheers, I'll try to get that running somewhere, perhaps this weekend. I've had a few people trying to develop using Ubuntu, and running into little problems (such as compiler errors/warnings) that don't occur on my system.

I use CentOS (RedHat) 4.3 and 4.4

Re: Booting issue

:? Well I really can't see what the problem might be here. I guess I need to install a Ubuntu VM and give it a try. If you didn't already mention it upthread, can you say which version of Ubuntu you're using?

Re: Booting issue

Looks normal. I just had a small hunch... you didn't by any chance use a Windows program like WinZip to unzip the Visopsys source file, did you? I'm wondering if there are DOS/Windows linefeed characters added to the script. If you load it up in a program like emacs, you'd see stuff like ^m (I think...

Re: Booting issue

Thanks for helping me sort this out.

OK, I'm a little bit stumped. Can you post your image-cd.sh script? I know what the released one looks like, but I just want to make sure I'm looking at the same script as you've got there...
