Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk
When I type host www.visopsys.org , I get the address response OK. Here's a pic: DNS looks alright there. One reason I didn't develop the wget program further is that it doesn't have SSL support yet, and there's not much plaintext HTTP out there on the web nowadays. Which is also true of visopsys.o...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk
Hi Ron,
Well, I'm glad that things seem to be working now for you (even if I lament the missed opportunity to debug these maddening interrupt snafus).
If you open up a command prompt, and try something like "host visopsys.org", does it give any error info?

Re: Won't finish booting
Hi hooptydoopty The problem that Ron was having over in the Visopsys forum seems to have been transient, and I can't reproduce it either. I started looking at your description of your system. This 'Bolton' chipset triggered a memory, and a search of earlier posts turned up this: https://visopsys.org...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk
I do think that if I could reproduce this with qemu it would be very useful. I've got a user over in the Partition Logic forum with an apparent interrupt problem, and I'm hopeful that there's just some nuance of APIC setup (or PCI device setup, or interrupt acknowledgement) that I've missed. As I sa...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk
Hi Ron, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm a qemu noob, so I didn't do anything other than your 2 commands: qemu-img create -f raw ./visopsys.img 200M qemu-system-i386 -m 200M -netdev tap,id=t0,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no -device pcnet,netdev=t0,id=nic0 -cdrom ./visopsys.iso -boot...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk
I'm reading that Qemu and almost all other virtualization software has plenty of issues with interrupt virtualizations. Qemu was mentioned specifically as having such issues prior to v2.9. I'll check the version I'm using. OTOH, Visopsys v0.82 worked OK with pcnet. I think you're using VMware? Huh....

Re: Won't finish booting
Hello, OK, great, thanks for the info. I have another report (in the Visopsys forum) of a similar kind of thing with these unhandled interrupts. However he's getting it with an emulator, so I can run that here and try to debug it hands-on. I think I'll focus on that and hopefully whatever I turn up ...

Re: My experiences with Visopsys install on QEMU virt disk
when I set QEMU to use the pcnet nic, I got debug messages about interrupt handling. Here's a screen shot (sorry for the poor picture): Hi Ron. Argh. I saw a similar kind of thing with unhandled interrupts on my dev PC. That was when I (unknowingly) had my disk controller set to legacy IDE mode for...

Re: Won't finish booting
Also, can you tell me anything about the hardware? Make and model? I might be able to look up the motherboard specs. Is it a laptop?
