Graphics are not enabled

Post by burak »

Hi,

I have downloaded the 072 usb image and wrote it via a hex editor to a usb stick.
When I boot the usb stick I get the attached screen.

Graphics are not enabled and I am stuck in a prompt.
What could be the problem preventing the boot to complete?

Thanks,
Burak

Hi Burak,

It might be that that system doesn't have VESA linear framebuffer (LFB) support. That's the only graphics driver that Visopsys has (I don't have the resources to write graphics drivers for all different cards). Once upon a time, LFB support wasn't so universal, but almost all machines have it now.

You could type the command 'touch /bootinfo' to see whether the OS loader complains about no LFB support. If the OS loader sees that file, it shows some info on the screen about what hardware support it found.

Hi Andy,

The vloader.log shows that visopsys complains about lack of vesa lfb support.

However, even it is an old hardware, it still shouldn't be too old to have vesa support.
You can find some info about pci devices at the bottom of this message , gathered from a linux distro.

PC has onboard intel graphics card. Maybe you can add some support for future.

My primary objective was to defrag fat32 filesystem, but fdisk shows the drive as a 4gb drive(even though it is a 10gb drive) and defrag stuck on saying analyzing...
If you need more info, I can run some commands or programs to help you get more from the hardware.

Re: Graphics are not enabled

The standard video BIOS for i810 GPUs is notable for not supporting VESA 2.0, and thus, the linear framebuffer feature.
The only computers with i810 GPUs I'm aware that ship with a video BIOS implementing the linear framebuffer feature are from IBM.

Your best bet right now is to use either a PCI or AGP video card whose video BIOS implements VESA 2.0.
